COVID-19 infections in England have increased four times in one month since early June, reported a large prevalence study.
According to the study by Imperial College London, cases appear to be doubling every six days amid a new wave triggered by the Delta variant. The study included 47,000 individuals returning tests between June 24 and July 5, and noted the national prevalence to be 0.59%, translating to 1 in 170 individuals, in comparison with 0.15% during the last round from late May to early June. The study also revealed that infection rates were lower by about three-fold among the under 65 years population who had been administered two doses of vaccine, compared to those who were not vaccinated… (Reuters, July 8, 2021)
